FAQ's Visqueen Ecomembrane DPM
1.0 Ecomembrane is manufactured from post use recycled polythene, what are the benefits?
Specifying recycled products, in particular those manufactured from 100% post use waste, keeps reusable material in the economy, diverting valuable waste from landfill whilst conserving resources.
Using post use recycled polythene compared to using virgin polythene reduces the impact production has upon the environment. Firstly energy consumption is reduced by two thirds. Only a third of the sulphur dioxide and half of the nitrous oxide are produced. Water usage is reduced by almost 90% and carbon dioxide generation is reduced by two and a half times.
2.0 Is EcoMembrane installed differently from other DPM’s?
EcoMembrane is installed in exactly the same way as other DPM’s, using jointing tapes and lapping to compatible waterproofing products such as Zedex DPC and using top hats where necessary.
3.0 Is EcoMembrane performance less than traditional DPM’s?
No, in fact EcoMembrane has been independently tested and approved by BRE. EcoMembrane has been rigorously tested against the new DPM European Test Standard BS EN 13967:2004 and is now the first DPM to be tested and accredited by BRE to this new European Standard. Due to Visqueen’s careful selection of post-use materials, EcoMembrane exhibits high strength and robustness; meaning that EcoMembrane is as good as, if not better than the market leading PIFA DPM’s.
4.0 Can EcoMembrane be used on gas contaminated sites?
This depends upon the levels of contamination. Generally where there are higher levels of contamination, in accordance with good practice we suggest that one of Visqueen’s specialist gas protection membranes are used instead.
