Where can I take my WEEE?
Further Information on WEEE
The WEEE regulations are the UK’s regulations to comply to the European Directive (2002/96/EC) which was introduced with a view to minimising the impact of electrical and electronic equipment (EEE) on the environment, by increasing re-use and recycling and reducing the amount of WEEE going to landfill.
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment Regulations came in to force in the United Kingdom on the 2nd January 2007.
The WEEE Regulations place an obligation on all manufacturers, importers and distributors to put in place a mechanism for recovering and recycling WEEE.
Why Recycle WEEE?
The UK’s fastest growing waste stream is waste electrical goods. It is growing at a rate of 5% a year this roughly equates to 1,200,000 tonnes of electrical waste. 75% of this waste will end up in Landfill sites where the contaminants increase substantially increase the risk to the environment including our health.
Example Issue
With 25% of the UK’s water supply coming from ground water and an estimated 50% of that being contaminated. Groundwater has to now be cleaned by the water companies – and it is all of us who pay. Do you really want to add to the problem? Recycling avoids many of the contaminants being landfilled in WEEE and this reduces the associated contamination risks.
Distributor Take back Scheme.
WTB Group Ltd activities identify us as a Business to Consumer (B2C) distributor and therefore commit to abiding by the regulations laid out in the WEEE Regulations.
We are a member of the Distributor Take Back Scheme run by Valpak on behalf of the government. We pay into a national fund to cover our obligation. This fund is used to assist in the improvement of Local Authority Civic Amenity (CA) sites, so that as many different types of WEEE as possible can be collected. You can find where to recycle your WEEE by clicking here.
WEEE Symbol - The Crossed out Wheelie Bin symbol
Electrical and Electronic Equipment that was made after June 2006 should display this symbol on the packaging or product. Either send the product to be repaired and reused or use the bank locator to find where it can be recycled.
Not to be confused with:

Note: No black strip under the wheelie bin.
Battery recycling – used to support the Battery Directive due to become UK law in 2008.
