During heavy rain, surface water can pose a serious danger to motorists. In particular, aquaplaning - where tyres 'waterski' across the surface - can lead to total loss of control. To help combat this, Burdens has developed a bridge deck gutter system that effectively removes both surface and sub-surface water, so protecting drivers while ensuring the durability and performance of highway surfaces.
The system, which is available as a surface drainage unit or as a combined surface and sub-surface unit, can also be used where a D400 loading is required for either surface or sub-surface drainage in highway applications.
Among its green benefits, the system:
Burdens bridge deck gutter system is manufactured to EN 1433, the European Standard that lays down requirements for water drainage channels in areas open to the public and/or vehicles. EN1433 covers materials, design, testing, marking, quality control, and inspection procedures, and has the status of a British Standard. Naturally, the system is also manufactured to ISO9001, the global standard that demonstrates a quality management system for the consistent supply of products meeting customer's requirements.
Typically, units are be laid flat and level on a 5mm-deep bedding of high-performance Adawall Bridge Deck Gutter Compound, complying with the recommendations of the Design Manual for Roads and Bridges HD27/94, Mortars for bedding ironwork.
