The SS Great Britain was the dramatic location on 5th September for a fund raising event hosted by Burdens to help the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC.) Chris Briginshaw and Meirion Thomas hosted this ‘black tie’ event in Isambard Kingdom Brunel’s uniquely successful ship now resting in restored splendour in a dry dock in Bristol.
Carrie Cardale, the NSPCC’s South West Corporate Fundraising Manager would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone in Burdens Wales and West region involved in the organisation of the fabulous fundraising dinner.
Carrie said: “Both the venue and the food were superb with the guests very generously supporting the auction and raffle which helped to raise over £5,000. Special thanks go to both Chris Briginshaw and Meirion Thomas who are fantastic supporters and ambassadors for the NSPCC’s work.”
Guests heard about the work of the NSPCC locally, the work of the NSPCC’s
South West ChildLine base and the charity’s new fundraising activity - the Child’s Voice Appeal. At present the South West base is the smallest in the country and they are only able to answer two thirds of the calls they receive. They desperately need to raise more money to recruit more ChildLine volunteer counsellors to answer all the 300 calls a day they receive from across the region.
Carrie added: “It costs £40 to answer 10 calls to ChildLine and £1600 to recruit and train a counsellor so the money raised from the dinner will make a very real difference to the lives of children and young people who call ChildLine every day.”
