Duktus manufacture an extensive range of ductile iron pipe and fittings that will satisfy most standard pipe requirements. However, Duktus have a unique positive locking restrained joint system (BLS®/VRS®-T) and a cement mortar coating system (ZMU®) for ductile Iron pipe which can offer significant advantages both in terms of as laid cost and technical solutions.
The BLS®/VRS®-t System
The BLS®/VRS®-T joint is a push fit socket joint with a positive restraining feature consisting of a weld bead on the spigot end of each pipe or fitting an additional locking chamber cast on the socket end of each pipe or fitting, seals and mechanical locking segments.

Cost effective - Thrust blocks are not required - removes the cost associated with the provision of thrust blocks - labour, shuttering, concrete, reinforcement, excavation and removal of additional spoil
Superior strength and pressure ratings - Dependent on nominal size operating pressures up to 100bar and permitted tractive forces when directional drilling of up to 200kN can be achieved with less risk of joint failure due to variable on site conditions
Saves time - Easy, safe and speedy installation due to the simplicity of the BLS®/VRS®-T joints with typical assembly times of around 5 minutes for the DN 80 size to a maximum of 30 minutes for the DN 1000 size.
Assembly Flexibility - The joint will accept an angular deflection of up to 5° and a pipe string can thus be laid or pulled in to a radius of only 69 m. Complicated pipe sections (or installations in difficult ground conditions) can be assembled away from excavations and slung into place. Joints can be easily taken apart and re-assemble if necessary

The BLS®/VRS®-T restraint joint system can withstand all the extreme forces required when installing ductile iron pipes by the following methods:

Zmu® Protective External cement coating
The Duktus ZMU® coating is a plastic-modified cement mortar based on blast furnace cement, applied to a zinc coated pipe in a helix of uniform thickness of approx 5mm. The ZMU® coating is provided with additional support in the form of a net (similar to a bandage) to ensure a very tough abrasive/corrosive resistant characteristic
- Suitable for aggressive as well as chemically polluted soil conditions
- Excavated material can be used as back-fill ,removes the requirement for expensive bedding material
- Reduced cost for removal/disposal of spoil
- On site repair or additional wrapping is unnecessary
- Has increased external friction factor meaning fewer restrained pipe lengths required to secure each joint
