Friday 19th November 2010 saw the long awaited opening of Alderley Edge and Nether Alderley Bypass over six months ahead of schedule and within budget.
Birse Civils, part of the Balfour Beatty Group were the principal contractor on the three mile long project which has been in various stages of planning since the 1920’s and was finally opened by George Osborne, local MP for Tatton and current Chancellor of the Exchequer.
A procession of vintage cars dating back to 1920, when the idea of a bypass was first born, drove down the new road along with four coaches of invited guests. In addition to the three mile stretch of road, one rail bridge, three road bridges and one pedestrian bridge were constructed.

The twenty-two month long scheme has generated significant turnover for Warrington depot with orders for the concrete, plastic & clay drainage, line drainage, flag & kerb contributing in excess of £750,000 in direct orders. Attenuation, bricks, chemicals, headwalls, geotechnical products and a significant amount of ex-yard sales has pushed the total sales over £1 million for this project. This has been very ably handled by Kerrie- Anne Nickson, Birse Civils’ North-West Account Manager, which resulted in a personal invite to the grand opening on 19th November which she attended along with Jon Kennedy, Warrington’s Sales Executive.
