Chris joined Burdens straight from school in 1984, working on the trade counter at the Heaviside Drainage depot in Keynsham, Bristol. He progressed rapidly and, on his 21st birthday, was made manager of the Culvers Road depot in Keynsham, subsequently managing the Swindon and Cinderford depots. Directorships followed: initially regional director south west and later regional director Wales and the west when the two regions were combined.
2011 see’s Burdens partnering with Kinghtstone Housing Association in an exciting self-build opportunity for ex-servicemen. Knightstone Housing Association will own the project and be the landlords on completion – in conjunction with the Community Self Build Agency (CSBA). The CSBA is a charitable enterprise that has achieved enormous success in the UK with more than 130 self-build projects completed in the past 20 years.
In November 2010 Kenny Lewis, Purchasing Manager based at Burdens Gatwick, raised £2,000 for charity by riding 270 miles through Death Valley, USA on a $99 beach bike from Wal-Mart!Death Valley is so hot it holds the record for the highest air temperature recorded on Earth - 134 degrees Fahrenheit at the aptly named Furnace Creek. In that same year of 1922 the ground temperature was measured at over 200 degrees Fahrenheit!
What is it?Burdens will this year become a CRASH patron partner. CRASH is the construction industry’s high profile charity, a practical charity that focuses on improving and constructing buildings used to help homeless people. They do this in three ways; awarding cash grants, providing professional advice and supplying free and discounted materials.
As part of Burdens’ Check ‘em campaign in support of the cancer awareness charity Tenovus, the Company offered to help Nailsea and Backwell Under 13’s 2011 rugby tour by sponsoring their away shirt.

Last week a major new £3.7 million residential and training unit for young homeless people opened its doors in Aldershot following a 16-month build programme with the help of technical support, free materials and a grant from construction and property homelessness charity CRASH.
On Monday 12th November work started on the long awaited boathouse extension to the SARA (Severn Area Rescue Association) Chepstow Rescue Station. When the £300,000 project is complete it will enable SARA to keep its front-line rescue boats and emergency response vehicles under one roof, thus improving emergency response times and equipment reliability as well as providing a purpose built classroom for community awareness of water safety on the dangerous River Severn and estuary.
